Personality/Motivation: Even in a world of metahumans, aliens, and other beings, how would you react to suddenly waking up to find yourself glowing with white feathery wings? Now add a deeply religious upbringing and subsequent rejection of religion to the mix and you have what Thomas woke up to one day. To say he has a tenuous hold on sanity is understandable. Questions plague and torment Jacob, pulling him in all directions: Is he supposed to be an angel, as some say? Is he a human trapped in an angels body? Or in a far more sinister form? Is he just a man? Or is this some cosmic joke that he hasn't gotten the punchline to yet? These questions have created a bit of an identity crisis for Jacob. To normal humans and to those who would want something to believe in, he presents an image of what he always imagined angels to be like. To those who would do 'evil', he is ferocious and persistent, never giving an inch. To those who belong to neither category his behavior becomes erratic. Cold and distant, friendly and cheerful, sarcastic and cynical, he flows through various masks of behavior in a pattern known only to himself. His frequent conversations with a black cat and a golden retriever, and his references to "Mr. Cryptic-Dream-Guy", only add to the confusion of his behavior. But to those very few he would call friends, he is an altogether different person.
Through all the questions and doubts Jacob wrestles with, there are three things that keep him firmly rooted in sanity. The first is that he is a genuinely moral person. He wants to protect those who can't protect themselves, and make the world a little better than how he found it. The second is his quest to find the answers to all the questions that generally plague existence. Before his transformation, he would ask those questions of himself but never expect any answers. Now, he feels he might be able to force the issue; to ask, and demand answers to those who would know. In the end, Jacob knows who he is; a man. His real name is Thomas, but he choose this one with care: according to tradition, a human named Jacob wrestled with an angel, and though he forever after walked with a limp, he survived his encounter. |

Appearance: Jacob is a 7'2", well-built young man with two large, feathered wings sprouting out of his upper back. Also, he glows with an unearthly white light that changes to a red glow as he gets angry. I could go on and say he has grey eyes and short, brown hair, but to be honest nobody really notices those things if your tall, winged and glowing. Jacob tends to wear a long brown trenchcoat and a black-rimmed hat when he goes out in public; to limit the shock of his appearance. When not wearing a coat, the shirts he wears are modified by himself, and therefore sometimes a little strange looking, to allow for maximum mobility and comfort for his wings. As he's still new to this business, he does not have a real superhero costume. |

Background: |
Powers/Tactics: Jacob, while he adamantly professes his humanity, has been gifted with powers that seem stereotypically angelic. He has unearthly speed and agility, along with the power of flight. He also has the ability to create light and control it to a certain extent. From resources within himself, though not clear where, Jacob can bring light out of the darkness or concentrate that energy into a laser-like blast. Also, for a price, Jacob can concentrate his reserves of light into a shimmering multi-coloured sword which he can wield with great effect. Jacob's tactics vary greatly depending on the situation, but usually involve the use of his gift of flight. Whether it be sniping at ground-based opponents and dodging their attacks, or hitting his fellow flyers and then 'retreating' to a more advantageous location, Jacob likes to fight in the air. However, though he fears what might happen, he's more than willing to fight in a more personal way should innocent bystanders be threatened. |
