Personality/Motivation: That was the final straw for Jake, he couldn’t take it anymore. Justice wasn’t being served. He wanted to become someone else to avoid the pain he was feeling again. It was just like his childhood but even more intense. He sat and stared at a mask that he had picked up while on tour in Africa. The mask was a symbol of power to those who wore it and a symbol of fear for those who beheld it. Jake found that he could put the mask on his face and become someone else and not feel the intense sense of loss and anger, in fact, he lost all feeling and was able to focus focus on those who had made the world a bitter, hateful place. Those who hid behind masks of deception power and fear. Those who used people and stole dreams. Those who preyed on others for gain! It was in those moments of wearing the mask that Jake changed. He looked the same and in all senses appeared to be the same, but something was different, something was missing. He was too focused and at times too serious. He spent less time with friends and would hide in his garage playing with his toys. He had become a shade of his former self. He knew it and he gave the name a shape and form and a face

Height: 5' 11" Hair: Brown
Weight: 220 lbs Eyes: Brown
Appearance: As Jake Simpson, Shade stands about 5’11” with blond hair and a well-developed 175lb body. Ever since he has become Shade his usual smile has faded to one much more somber, his once brightly light blue eyes have taken on a more edge and penetrating look to them. He tends to be more on the quiet side. He enjoys listening to others, but might come off like he is daydreaming at times. Though this is how he looks normally most have never seen him like this at all. He is often seen as a NYPD policeman, detective, gang member, drug dealer, vagabond or a typical over weight, mid-aged citizen of whatever community he happens to be in.

He has been known to carry black playing cards with a laughing skull face on the middle of them, which is symbol of his most unsettling costume. When he is planning an assault on a group or person he typically is seen in a full black leather, kevlar/chainmail reinforced body armor. He carries a form fitting backpack that has several pockets attached to the straps holding it in place. He wears dull black mid calf combat boots. On his head he wears his symbol: a mask that has a large off white, non-reflective skull for his face. The image of a skull with glowing green eyes is often the last thing his prey will see before they leave this world.
Quote:
Background: Jake Simpson was a young boy when a jealous supervisor eager to steal new technology that his father had invented arranged for them to be killed. Jake entered the foster system and finally was adopted by a wealthy American/Japanese recluse who took Jake to live in Iga, Japan. He trained Jake in the Sciences and practiced daily with him on martial training to keep the angry and unhappy young boy focused. Jake excelled in both areas and was constantly looking for new challenges. Looking to return to his “roots” Jake joined the U.S. Navy and became a SEAL and eventually worked himself into the elite anti-terrorist group SEAL Team SIX.

While in the states Jake met and married Lori Douglas and quickly started a family having three children. He was living in New York and was debating leaving the hectic life that being on continual call was creating with his family life. He had one mission to perform before he was going to call it quits. It was during this time that his family was massacred while he was away. A bank robber, who was “flying” on drugs, entered the house and took the family hostage. SWAT fouled the deal up and when they entered and tried to take him out he killed them all with an explosive charge. He was captured later and forced to stand trial, but through his connections and missing evidence he managed to get off and walk.
Powers/Tactics: Shade is a relentless opponent of crime and often sees things in various shades of gray. He looks at crime in the world as an infestation that is ruining the good. He doesn’t believe the police have the resolve to do what it takes to get rid of this infestation. He is very cautious and meticulous planner. Before he ever makes a raid he often knows all about the patterns of the individuals or groups he is after. He will of more than likely made several appearances in disguise to get more information. He will often kidnap key individuals and after interrogating them for all the information they can give him, he will kill them and then impersonate them to infiltrate his target to learn more. He will often spend weeks or months before pulling a major hit, but when he does his tactics are often sudden, quick and highly violent. He is not above using explosives, nerve agents or biological weapons to achieve his goal. He realizes that with the meta-human’s he needs to be on alert and if at all possible doesn’t want to be around when things get ugly. If innocents have the chance of being hurt by him using the indirect approach he will use a more direct approach.

His first choice would be using a modified .50 caliber sniper rifle from long distance. His modifications allow him to shoot from as far as a mile away and still penetrate several feet of concrete to take out his target. (This is accomplished by using a RKA, with indirect fire, no-range penalties)

His second choice is using a two modified MP-5 machine guns and laying down generous amounts of fire. His ability with using autofire weapons allows him to select his targets from nearly anyone in a 180 degree arc in front of him.

If faced with a meta-human adversary he will often study them long before they come into contact. He will typically look for any weaknesses (find weakness) and then use the MP-5’s on lightly armored opponents or redesign a more powerful weapon using armor-piercing rounds or flechettes designed to pierce highly armored opponents.
